Divorce

The breakdown of a relationship can be one of the most traumatic events in a person's life. There is not only the stress of the relationship breakdown to deal with, but also many aspects of the person's life which are affected by the breakdown, such as caring for the children, housing, health, finance and work issues.

At Burningham and Brown we subscribe to Resolution's Code of Practice that encourages a constructive and non-confrontational approach to try and resolve matrimonial issues with the minimum of cost, both financial and emotional. We also ensure that the interests of any children in a marriage are placed as a priority.

We offer all clients an initial free half hour consultation either in person or over the phone with no strings attached, so if you wish to make an appointment please do call us, alternatively if you are not yet at that stage please do email us with your question and one of our Solicitors will reply to your query. Please also refer to our “Divorce Procedure Guidance Sheet” for further details.

Finances

Couples getting divorced owe one another a duty to provide full disclosure of their financial circumstances, throughout the divorce proceedings. We suggest that you read our "Financial Order Guidance Sheet" to obtain a better idea of how the financial matters are dealt within the context of divorce. Should you have any further questions we would be delighted to meet with you for a free half hour consultation.

Children

We can help and advise parents make decisions about the following issues:

  • Residence - where and with whom children live
  • Contact - when and how children see the parent with whom they do not have their main home
  • Specific issues - for example schooling, medical treatment, moving to live abroad with children
  • Support - how much maintenance should be paid for the care of the child
  • Disputes - how to come to a form of agreement with the co-parent Professional assistance at this time can help keep the emotional impact on your children to a minimum.
